SAEF Technology SFEPD213BWY-7018A01 is a 3-Colors 2.13” HR a-Si, active matrix TFT, Electronic Paper Display (EPD) panel. The panel has such high resolution (131dpi) that it is able to easily display fine patterns. Due to its bi-stable nature, the EPD panel requires very little power to update and needs no power to maintain an image.

The upstream of the Eink industrial chain is highly concentrated, and the midstream module manufacturing is dominated by Chinese manufacturers
The e-ink screen industry chain includes upstream film manufacturers, chip manufacturers and TFT backplane manufacturers, midstream e-ink screen modules, and downstream complete machine factories and solution providers in various application fields including readers, tablets, labels, etc.
►Diaphragm: The upstream diaphragm manufacturers are not only responsible for the technical research and development, product design and production of e-ink films, but also produce some e-ink screen module product delivery solution providers. Due to the early development of the e-ink screen market is not as expected, many diaphragm manufacturers have cleared, at present, Taiwan's Yuantai Technology occupies a major position with its leading technology, and other suppliers such as Guangzhou Aoyi Electronics, in general, the diaphragm link presents an oligopoly pattern.
►Chip: TCON is the control core of the display, and the corresponding TCON is required for e-paper from black and white to color. However, compared to mainstream applications such as liquid crystal displays, the e-paper market is small, and there are almost no TCON customized for e-paper applications. The E Ink Hardware TCON T1000 chip, jointly developed by Yuantai Technology and IC factory partners, has a standard interface for liquid crystal displays, integrates e-paper image algorithms, and combines e-paper power management chips to support multiple system architectures such as Android, Windows, Linux, etc., and has introduced more than 10 e-paper products so far.
►Module: Midstream module manufacturers purchase e-ink films from the upstream and combine them with TFT substrates, IC processors, etc. to generate display modules. The technical threshold of the e-ink screen module is low, the hardware price is relatively transparent, and it is necessary to maintain profit space through scale advantages.
►Downstream terminals: including iFLYTEK, Wenshi Technology, Zhangyue Technology and other manufacturers that produce C-end consumer electronic products, as well as suppliers such as Hanshow Technology and BOLZ that provide ESL solutions.
In general, the specificity of the e-ink screen industry chain is mainly reflected in the diaphragm link, and the innovation of driver IC helps to enhance the compatibility between application terminals and different systems, enrich the available functions, and TFT backplanes, modules and terminal applications have greater technical versatility and overlap with LCD and OLED industry chains. As a result, the expansion of upstream diaphragm capacity is relatively limited to individual companies, and other links are easier to migrate from LCD and OLCD production lines.
The diaphragm has strong patent barriers, and the path blockade continues to lead the industry. We believe that the upstream ink screen film has strong barriers, which is mainly reflected in the blockade of patents by core manufacturers. According to Yuantai's official website, the company acquired E Ink in 2009 to master the microcapsule e-paper patent, and in 2012 to acquire Sipix to master the microcup e-paper technology, so as to complete the layout of the technology patent.

The total size of the global e-ink screen display market was USD 3.1 billion in 2021 and is expected to reach USD 20.34 billion in 2026, at a CAGR of 45.62% from 2021 to 2026E.
